Sharp L4-01 error code

Main motor or paper feed motor fault

Sharp L4-01 usually indicates a main drive motor fault: the motor does not start, or its speed feedback is invalid. This code stops the printer.

What does this error mean?

Besides the motor itself, a jammed component or an incorrectly installed supply can obstruct the drive and cause the fault. It is worth checking the supplies and paper path first.

What can you safely try?

  1. 01Open the doors, check that the toner cartridge and drum unit are properly seated, and make sure no paper is jammed.
  2. 02Switch the printer off at the main power switch, wait a few minutes, then switch it back on. Some temporary faults clear this way.

When should you call a technician?

If the code returns, call a technician: checking the motor and drive is a job for a qualified technician.

Do you rent out or manage printers?

If you manage the printer at a customer’s site, you can record the fault on site in PrinterMS using QR issue reporting, and any parts used are automatically added to its service history. See printer fleet management.
