Machine Error 46: waste ink absorber full
Brother error 46 means that the waste ink absorber, the pad that collects ink from printhead cleaning, has reached its capacity. The printer stops to prevent an overflow.
What does this error mean?
Every printhead cleaning cycle releases ink into an internal absorber, and the printer tracks how full it is. Resetting the counter and replacing the absorber are service tasks; without this, the printer will not resume printing.
What can you safely try?
- 01Switch the printer off at the main power switch, wait a few minutes, then switch it back on. Some temporary faults clear this way.
- 02Reduce manual printhead cleaning if the printer is still usable: every cleaning cycle fills the absorber further.
When should you call a technician?
Call a technician: replacing the absorber and resetting the counter requires a qualified technician. On an older printer, consider whether replacement would be more economical.
