Xerox 016-720 error code
Page description language (PDL) processing fault
Xerox 016-720 usually indicates a page description language (PDL) processing fault: the printer received a job it cannot interpret. A particular document or driver setting typically triggers it.
What does this error mean?
The exact meaning can vary slightly between Xerox printer families, but 016-7xx codes relate to job processing. If the error always occurs with the same document, the job is the trigger, rather than the printer.
What can you safely try?
- 01If the error appeared after a particular print job, clear the print queue on the computer before trying again.
- 02Try printing with a different driver setting, such as PCL instead of PostScript or the other way round.
- 03Switch the printer off at the main power switch, wait a few minutes, then switch it back on. Some temporary faults clear this way.
When should you call a technician?
If the fault occurs regularly with many different documents, call a technician or request a driver update.
Do you rent out or manage printers?
If you manage the printer at a customer’s site, you can record the fault on site in PrinterMS using QR issue reporting, and any parts used are automatically added to its service history. See printer fleet management.
