Lexmark 900.XX error code

Firmware (RIP software) fault

Lexmark error 900.xx usually indicates a runtime fault in the controller firmware: the processing software encountered an unexpected state. A particular print job or network event is the most common trigger.

What does this error mean?

Error 900 is the most frequently searched Lexmark code. If it always occurs with the same document, the job is the trigger; if it occurs randomly, a firmware update or hardware examination may be needed.

What can you safely try?

  1. 01Switch the printer off at the main power switch, wait a few minutes, then switch it back on. Some temporary faults clear this way.
  2. 02If the error appeared after a particular print job, clear the print queue on the computer before trying again.
  3. 03For a test, unplug the network cable and print over USB: this helps establish whether the trigger is coming from the network.
  4. 04If you can, update the device firmware from Lexmark’s website.

When should you call a technician?

If the fault still returns regularly after a firmware update, call a technician: a memory or mainboard fault may be responsible.

Do you rent out or manage printers?

If you manage the printer at a customer’s site, you can record the fault on site in PrinterMS using QR issue reporting, and any parts used are automatically added to its service history. See printer fleet management.
