Internal hardware fault
Epson error code 0x97 usually indicates a fatal internal hardware fault, typically in the mainboard, printhead or a sensor. The printer does not continue printing after the fault.
What does this error mean?
0x97 is one of the best-known faults in the Epson WorkForce family. Some cases are temporary and disappear after fully disconnecting the power; a recurring 0x97 typically indicates a hardware cause.
What can you safely try?
- 01Switch the printer off, unplug the power cable and all other cables, and leave it disconnected from power for at least 15 minutes.
- 02Reconnect only the power cable and try switching it on again.
When should you call a technician?
If the code returns, call a technician. On an older printer, consider whether the repair is worthwhile compared with the device’s value.
